The Ascension 乐播传媒 is publishing candidate prepared announcements for the Nov. 5 elections.

Announcements must include the candidate's age, political party and education. All announcements must be less than 400 words and received by July 19. A color photo of the candidate also should be sent as a high resolution jpg attachment.

Lacrosse summing camp set

the Ascension Parish Pelican's Lacrosse Club is holding a training camp for students in eighth through 12th grades. the camp is set for 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 22-26 and a scrimmage from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. July 27 at the Gonzales City Room Park, 1006, Highway 30, Gonzales.

No experience necessary and equipment will be available.

Dancing for a Cause voting underway

Voting is underway for the Dancing for a Cause star dancers.

The annual fundraiser for the Arc of East Ascension is set for 7 p.m. July 13 at the REV Center at Lamar-Dixon Expo Center.

Celebrity star dancers are Chris Rosato, Rod Braud, Amanda Gautreau, Christian Bourgeois, Caprice Cline, Chabry Marks, Falcon Mire, Elise Tureau Frederic and Kelly Mitchell.

Sweet Spot Cocktail Trail continues

The Ascension Parish Tourism Commission's Sweet Spot Cocktail Trail is underway. To take part, order the 鈥淪weet Spot Cocktail鈥 at participating businesses through July 31, and receive a stamp in your cocktail trail passport.

Purchase any 10 of the cocktails, get a stamp on your passport and turn in your passport to receive a gift and to be entered into the grand prize giveaway valued at over $600. All completed passports must be turned in by July 31 to be entered into the grand prize drawing. You must be 21 years of age to participate. Visit 聽for information.

26th annual School Tools Drive planned

Plans are set for Volunteer Ascension's 26th School Tools Drive.聽

The drive collects and distributes needed school supplies for Ascension Parish students. The Corporate Challenge is underway, with supply drop offset for July 19 at Fire District 1 on Airline Highway in Gonzales.聽

The Community Collection Day is 9 a.m. to noon July 20 at 2400 S. Burnside, Gonzales. People donating supplies will be able to take part in the Touch a Truck event, which includes games and activities.

Found a stray? Here's how you can help

Cara's House animal shelter is offering a new program to help reduce its shelter population and provide care for lost or abandoned animals.

The Found a Stray program encourages people who find a lost pet to call the shelter and posted the animal. For information, call Cara's House at (225) 675-0400. Cara's House provides for all the animal's needs while it's under foster care.

Lady Hawks softball tryouts planned

The Lady Hawks softball team is holding tryouts for its 12-year-old and under team from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. July 16, July 18, July 23 and July 25 at 10414 Acy Road, Sr. Amant.
